New Transformers for the API 500 Format
The past few days have been busy in our workshop. We’ve completed several transformer designs, with a particular focus on bringing full-size transformer character into the space available inside an API 500 module.
Our version of the API 2503 is now complete in the EI57 format. This well-known bifilar output transformer is the next design we plan to adapt for API 500, with a target width of 36.5 mm. The challenge is to make it fit while preserving the performance that made us choose the larger format in the first place.
We’ve also finished three transformers for the API 500 format:
1166A is our version inspired by the Marinair LO1166 output transformer. It brings this gapped transformer design into a body just 36.5 mm wide.
1366A adapts one of our most popular transformers, the 1366, for API 500 projects. It is an ungapped 600:600 Ω design and a good choice for passive signal paths.
5002A is based on the Universal Audio 5002 output transformer associated with the legendary 1176 compressor, now in a format suited to API 500 builds.
